What is it?
To improve the chances of your website link appearing at the top of a search page you can sign up with Google (and some other search engine operators) to have your website link appear in the “sponsored links” area in the search list. It works on the basis that you decide a bid price for each time a user clicks on your website link. The more you bid for each click the more likely your link will appear.
Using the AdWords facility, also known as pay per click, is not a guarantee that you will attract users to your site. Many factors combine to get your link at the highest position, particularly how much you decide to bid and what term is used when a user searches. For example, in a competitive market, if you bid on a popular search term you are likely to be bidding against many thousands of other pay per click competitors.
